Mechanical Music Museum

When in the village do not miss a visit to the Mechanical Music Museum. This museum of over 1,500 square meters, houses one of the best collections of over 600 mechanical music instruments, some dating as far back as the 17th Century.

From musical boxes to gramophones, via Barbary (barrel) organs and automatic pianos, the museum invites you back in time to discover the predecessors of records and CDs. These magnificent works of art are exhibited chronologically throughout the museum’s various rooms and are all in working order.

One gallery exhibits the automats that once graced the windows of the celebrated perfumiers Roger & Gallet. Other treasures in this exceptional collection include:

  • The Aeolian Philharmonic Organ which functions in either manual or automatic mode. Classed as an historic monument it resides in Les Gets Church
  • One of the oldest remaining wooden merry-go-rounds in operation complete with its original Limonaire organ. Following recent restoration it now resides under cover in the Place de la Maison des Gets
  • The commemorative mechanical bells which marked the 150th anniversary of the Savoie’s annexation to France are located at the entrance to the museum.

Prices: (for both buildings): 12.50€/adult - 8.50€/child. Family ticket (2 parents + 2 to 4 children, for the whole site): 35€
